Karina Nelson

Volunteer Manager

Karina grew up with a passion for helping others. Her mother is an inspiration for her work: Karina always admired the way her mother created spaces for herself as a Deaf woman and these early experiences ignited her desire to advocate on the behalf of many.

She got her BA and MA at the University of Central Florida in Human Communication and Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Globalization and Social Justice. Before joining Invest in Girls, Karina worked on a Title IX team and was an advocate for foster children.

Karina is bilingual in American Sign Language and English. Cool fact: ASL was her first language. She learned how to sign before she could talk!
